Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lynx Fall Late To Bearcats

A tie game with less than two minutes remaining saw the Lynx fail to complete the comeback falling to the Rust Bearcats 69 to 61 on Sunday, November 25th.  Trailing by single digits for most of the contest, the Rhodes Lynx battled back to tie the game at 59 with 1:57 remaining.  Eight points down the stretch by Rust guard Kelsey Barns sunk Rhodes hopes of victory, including a three-point field goal with 47 seconds remaining that put Rust up by four points.

Rhodes struggled shooting in the first half, only connecting on 1 of 12 three-point field goals, but were able to stay within striking distance of the Bearcats at halftime.  Rust used two first half runs, 12 to 0 and 10 - 2, to keep separation from the Lynx fight.  Rhodes closed on the first half on a positive note closing the gap to 37 - 31.  Neither team trailed by double figures all night.

Early in the second half Rhodes cut the gap but their perimeter shooting woes continued.  The Lynx finished the night 3 of 19 (15%).  A back-and-forth battle that was played within eight points never saw the Lynx get over the hump in the second half.  Rhodes was able to tie the game or keep it to one possession on many occasions but was never able to grab ahold of the lead.  Five free-throws and a three-point field goal by Rust's Barns over the final two minutes help the Bearcats finish the game on another 10-2 run.

Sophomore forward Geoff Livsey continues his great play despite the Lynx results.  Livsey finished the night with a game-high 22 points and 7 rebounds.  After four games this season Geoff is averaging over 14 points per game on 67% shooting.  Livsey also leads the team with 7.25 rebounds per.  Senior Andrew Galow chipped in with 16 points.

Rhodes (1-3, 0-0) looks to rebound quickly from this loss as they open up conference play on Wednesday against Hendrix College (2-3, 0-0).  The Lynx will host Hendrix in Mallory-Hyde Gymnasium at 8pm.
