The Rhodes Lynx fell in the last seconds against Greenville College on Friday, November 16th. After grabbing the lead with a pair of
Andrew Galow free throws with 11 seconds remaining, the Greenville Panthers found the open man under the basket to lay the ball in giving them a 70 to 69 lead with 3.9 seconds. The Lynx heave at the buzzer fell short and the season opener ended with the Lynx on the wrong side of a back-and-forth battle, 70 to 69.
The Panthers full court pressure bothered the Lynx early on resulting in 16 turnovers for Rhodes. Nevertheless, the Lynx battled back by attacking the rim and outrebounding Greenville by 10 on the offensive end. A three-point field goal by
Johnny Dunavant saw Rhodes grab the lead 67-63 with 2:11 on the clock, but the remaining time went in the favor of the Panthers. The lynx missed four significant free-throws down the stretch and could not get the last second defensive stop.
Rhodes was led by Senior
Andrew Galow with 18 points, all in the second half. Sophomore
Geoff Livsey started the 2012-13 season the right way with a double-double, notching 15 points and 10 rebounds (5 offensive). Losing the opener, the Lynx fall to 0-1 on the young season.
The Lynx will be in action again tomorrow, Saturday November 17th, versus Westminster College (Mo.) at 5pm.
