Sewanee, TN- The Lynx field hockey team earned a 2-0 shutout win at Sewanee today to finish the SAA Regular Season a perfect 8-0. In 15 seasons of varsity field hockey Rhodes has won or had a share in 8 regular season conference titles but only twice have the Lynx completed the run undefeated (2010 and 2012).
Rhodes dominated the early part of the game earning 8 first half penalty corner, 4 of which occurred in the first ten minutes of play. Despite controlling much of play and dominating possession Rhodes was unable to score early, much due to a strong effort by Sewanee goalkeeper Anna Morrow who notched 11 saves on the day.
Mary Rose Hazel scored the game winning goal on a penalty corner shot with about 13 minutes to play which was followed by a second goal in the last minute of play by
Evy Royther. Rhodes out shot Sewanee 27-15 and had a 13-8 advantage in penalty corner opportunities.
Jordan Robinson had an outstanding game in goal for the Lynx, earning 11 saves with the shut out. The Lynx also benefitted from great efforts by
Kate Taylor and
Regan McLaughlin who helped to hold down the midfield as well as senior captain
Marie Mason who played well on the defensive end.
Next weekend the Lynx (12-4, 8-0 SAA) will host the SAA Tournament on their new turf, having earned hosting honors by winning the Regular Season Title. #4 Sewanee will face off against #5 Transylvania Friday at noon, and the winner will play #1 seed Rhodes on Saturday at 11 am.
