Football Earns First Shutout Victory Since 2008 at Macalester

10/13/2012 10:29:00 PM

Rhodes College scored on a 53-yard run and clinched the game on a 30-yard TD on a fourth-down conversion with 2:29 to play to beat Macalester in St. Paul, MN. This was the first meeting ever between these two schools and the first win ever for the Lynx in the state of Minnesota. In addition, it was the first shutout victory for the Lynx since 2008 and will guarantee the program's best record since 2007.

Rhodes kept the Scots off the scoreboard by holding Macalester to a 2-for-16 third-down conversion rate. The Lynx out-gained Macalester 320-261 in total yardage, but Macalester held an 18-16 first down advantage.

This could have easily been a scoreless tie had it not been for two big plays for Rhodes. The first was running back Dane Wilson's 53-yarder on the first play of Rhodes' second possession, and the second was the fourth-down Lynx touchdown pass with just 2:29 to seal the victory by quarterback Blake Box to wide receiver Jonathan Wiener.

Dane Wilson rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown for Rhodes and quarterback Blake Box was 17-for-25 for 141 yards. Joseph Raby led the defensive cause with 13 tackles. Head Coach Dan Gritti had this to say about the game "We played well on defense and our offense made plays when we needed them. It's a good win and looking forward to coming home to Memphis for homecoming." The Lynx improve to 4-2 on the season and will face off against the Millsaps Majors next Saturday at 2pm on Crain Field.
