The Rhodes Lynx got off to a bad start Sunday, January 8th, as the Birmingham Southern College Panthers opened up a 20 - 4 lead of the first six minutes of the game, in route to a 70 to 48 victory over your Rhodes Lynx. The Lynx fought back and cut the lead to nine with five minutes remaining in the first half, but turnovers and missed opportunities saw them get no closer the remainder of the game and fell 70 to 48.
Birmingham Southern came out strong over the first six minutes of the game and capitalized on multiple Lynx turnovers to take a quick sixteen point lead. Once the Lynx settled in they cut the lead to nine points with five minutes remaining in the half, looking to fight off the Panthers charge and go into the locker room in position. However, the Lynx failed to score over the last five minutes and found themselves behind by 19 at the break.
The Lynx made some shots to open up the second half, but the tide never turned. Rhodes committed a season-high 19 turnovers that led to 31 points for the Panthers. Birmingham had three players in double figures, with Senior Zac Richards leading the team with 14 points. Rhodes was led in scoring by Junior
Andrew Galow with 11 points.
The game marked the first conference loss for the Lynx as they move to 4-1 in the league, in a tie for first place in the east division. Overall, the Lynx are 9-5 on the season. Rhodes is on the road again next weekend with a pair of games against the west division: University of Dallas on Friday, January 13th at 8pm and Austin College on Saturday, January 14th at 8pm.
