Head Football Coach Dan Gritti is pleased to announce the hiring of David Szentesy as the Assistant Football Coach for Defensive Backs and Athletic Department Strength and Conditioning Coordinator. Szentesy comes to Rhodes after coaching the last three seasons at Middlebury College (VT).
Following his career as a three year starter and three time All-Liberty League selection at Hobart, Szentesy coached at his high school alma mater in Lackawanna, NY. Szentesy moved into the college ranks with a one year stint at Hamilton College (NY) before moving onto perennial Division III power Alfred University (NY). During his tenure at Alfred, Szentesy coached four all-league players and made postseason appearances in both of his two seasons.
In 2008, Szentesy moved to Middlebury where he worked with Rhodes Head Coach Dan Gritti for one season. During his three season tenure, Szentesy produce three first time all league players.
On hiring Szentesy, Coach Gritti commented that “Coach Szentesy is a winner and will bring Division III playoff experience to our staff as well as personal knowledge of what it takes to be a successful student-athlete at an institution very similar to Rhodes. Personally, I am very excited to work with someone who understands our defensive concepts so well and can play an important role in its continued evolution.”
