MEMPHIS, TN— Rhodes' Men's Track & Field team shrugged off rainy conditions to produce several impressive marks in today's Rhodes Invitational.
After a short delay due to lightning, the Lynx men regrouped to place sixth in the 4x100m relay with the all-freshman squad of
Ronald Booker (Memphis, TN), Matt Smyth (Stamford, CT), Stanton Brown (Millington, TN), and Christian King (Baton Rouge, LA).
Also having solid performances were senior Jon Mervine (Stafford, VA) and senior
Chris Moore (Southlake, TX) in their respective events of the 400m hurdles and 3,000m steeplechase. Mervine's victory in a time of 55.41 was his best time of the season and Moore's second place time of 9:54.15 was almost twenty seconds ahead of the third place runner.
Cody Beatty (Lewisville, TX) ran a personal best time of 15:44.80 in the 5,000m to cross the finish line in seventh place out of thirty-six competitors. Freshman Noah Brown (Charlotte, NC) and junior
Will Hawes (Springfield, MO) battled it out in the mile run both running college best times to finish in seventh and eighth place in respective times of 4:34.48 and 4:34.88. Also competing in the middle distance events was junior
Evan Nelsen (Greenville, SC) in the 800m. His time of 1:59.27 was good for fifth place and marks the fastest 800m for the team this season.
The Lynx men will next participate in the Washington University in St. Louis Invitational. Over the course of two days, with many of the distance events and field events taking place on Friday night beneath the stadium lights and the remaining events taking place on Saturday, the team looks to continue building on their many successes.
