MEMPHIS, TN - The Rhodes College Open Meet started off on the right foot on Friday afternoon with senior Andrew Maryott (East Dennis, MA) throwing a personal best in the shot put and coming within three inches of the school record. His put of 48'4.5" placed him eighth overall out of twenty-seven competitors, most of which were Division I athletes. Maryott followed up on his stellar shot put performance on Saturday, finishing in sixth place in the hammer throw (156'9"), and third place in the discus (151'4").

Also having a strong Saturday were juniors Evan Nelsen (Greenville, SC) and Cody Beatty (Lewisville, TX). Both competed in the mile run and both dipped under the former school record of 4:24.36. Nelsen just edged Beatty, finishing in a time of 4:22.47 to best Beatty's 4:23.76. Nelsen's time placed him sixth overall while Beatty's time was good for tenth place.

The 10,000m run saw all three Rhodes runners run life time bests. Leading the charge was senior Josh Deaton (Danielsville, GA) whose time of 32:45.34 bested his previous mark set back in his sophomore year. In hot pursuit was junior Will Hawes (Springfield, MO), whose time of 33:43.38 was a lifetime personal record by two minutes. Senior co-captain Steve Brunson (Plano, TX) was another success story as his time of 34:26.14 was a minute better than his previous best.

Kevin Stechler (Westborough, MA) had a very noteworthy performance in the 200m dash, clocking a 22.79 to finish in twelfth place out of forty-eight individuals.

Full meet details will be posted soon.
