MONMOUTH, IL – Two school records fell during Monmouth College's Fighting Scot Invitational as the Men's Track & Field team had an all around strong showing against some of the strongest teams in the Midwest.

Junior Cody Beatty (Lewisville, TX) broke the school record in the mile run with a time of 4:24.36 to finish in third place. Beatty's time further lowered the record that was set by teammate, junior Evan Nelsen (Greenville, SC), two weeks ago at the Rose Hulman Invitational. As a testament to the great depth of the men's program in the middle distances, sophomore Tyler Catterton (Germantown, TN) finished in seventh place in the mile, crossing the line in 4:31.20 and Nelsen continued with his stellar season, as he demonstrated his talents in the 800m with a third place finish in a very fast time of 1:57.09. Nelson also anchored the 4x400m relay of sophomore Josh Blount (Austin, TX), Catterton, and senior Jon Mervine (Stafford, VA) to a seventh place finish, crossing the line in 3:32.29.

In the sprinting events, Kevin Stechler (Westborough, MA) flew to an eighth place finish in both the 55m and 200m dashes, running a 6.72 and 23.62 respectively. Stechler also served as the leadoff leg for the 4x200m relay, teaming up with freshman Julian Hawkins (Kennesaw, GA), freshman Blake Mayberry (Arlington, TX), and senior co-captain Greg Palm (Merrimack, NH) and helping the group to a fourth place finish in a time of 1:36.24.

The distance events saw senior Chris Moore (Southlake, TX) place sixth in the 3,000m run with at time of 9:02.35 and junior Will Hawes (Springfield, MO) place eighth in the 5,000m run in a significant personal best time of 15:59.47.

Senior Andrew Maryott (East Dennis, MA) shone for the Lynx in both the shot put and the weight throw. Placing fourth in both events, his heave of 52'6” (16.00m) in the weight shattered the school record of 50'11” (15.52m) which Maryott set earlier this season at the Arkansas State Kickoff Klassic. His shot put toss of 46'0” (14.02m) also served as a season's best to cap off an all around standout performance.

The non-scoring Fighting Scot Invitational concludes the Indoor Track & Field season for the Rhodes Men. The team returns to action on March 19th as Rhodes will host the Rhodes Open Meet to usher in the first competition of the Outdoor Season.
