11/5/2011 6:37:00 PM

The Lynx earned a 3-2 victory over Sewanee University (5-9, 1-5 SCAC) this afternoon in the semi-final round of the SCAC tournament, securing them a spot in Sunday's championship game.  The first goal of the game came less than ten minutes into the first half, when senior defender Sara Sanders played a rebound off the goalie's pads and was able to find the back of the cage.  Fellow senior Sarah Kennedy scored the Lynx second goal with 20 minutes left in the first half on a well played cross from the top of the circle.  Sewanee pressured back and gained momentum after a goal from Sewanee's leading scorer, Elise Landau, with 12 minutes lefts to play in the first half.  After an intense push from both ends Katie Faucher scored her 14th goal of the year and extended the lead to 3-1 with a goal right before the halftime whistle.

Throughout the second half of play Rhodes generated many scoring opportunities but was unable to slip another one past Tiger goalkeeper Anna Morrow who made 23 saves on the game.  The Lynx also held a 16-6 edge in penalty corners.  Rhodes held their own on defense, with great performances by seniors Libby Jones, Sara Sanders, and sophomore Regan McLaughlin.  With less than a minute in regulation, Sewanee found a seam in the Lynx defense and notched another goal for a final score of 3-2.  Goalkeeper Jordan Robinson made three saves to secure the victory on Sewanee's six shots.

The Lynx will play Centre College tomorrow morning at 11 am in the championship game as they attempt to win their third consecutive SCAC Title, hosted here at Rhodes.
