Playing a par 74 at the very tough, hilly Stonemont course at Stone Mountain, GA,
Stephanie Mingos shot 79-81 in rounds one and two, and a blistering two over par 76 in the final round to win 2010 SCAC Women's Golf Championship. Her three day total of 14 over par is a new SCAC record erasing the previous mark of 17 over par by three time SCAC champion Marisa Mauldin of Southwestern.
The 2010 SCAC title follows a 7th place finish in 2008 as a freshman and a 3rd place finish in 2009 as a sophomore. "Last year at Tunica National Stephanie was in the midst of trying to figure out her swing and she really had to battle to finish 3rd," said Coach Clary. "Coming into this weekends tournament Stephanie was hitting the ball great. It's really satisfying to see her reap the benefit of a lot of hard work and perseverence as she's revamped her swing and recovered from a back injury suffered this summer."
"Stephanie and our team have spent a lot of time this winter/spring with Sam Kern, a local teaching professional. Sam deserves a lot of credit with our team and Stephanie. He has been awesome for the team this year," said Coach Clary.
The NCAA Division III Women's Golf Committee will announce the participants in the 2010 NCAA tournament late Monday afternoon, May 3. "Stephanie has played great golf this spring, which should bode well in her consideration for an individual spot in the NCAA tournament."
