Men's Soccer ended their season on a high note, as they defeated Colorado College 2-1 in 2OT Sunday afternoon in Colorado Springs, CO. The match was tightly contested, despite statistics saying Colorado College outshot the Lynx 29-14, which many were through-balls or errant crosses that Rhodes' keeper,
Justin Stradley, picked off. Both teams found the woodwork in the first half, but could not find the back of the net.
Rhodes would jump on the scoresheet first, as junior, Charlie Lent, chipped Tiger goalie, Andy McGhie, from about 30 yards out. The shot rebounded off the crossbar to hit McGhie in the back and cross the goal line for the Lynx goal. With twenty minutes left to play, sophomore,
Colby Bowles, almost padded the Rhodes lead, but his header would be denied by the post. Colorado College would find the equalizer in the 80th minute, as Nick Lammers tucked away a rebound. The game would slip into overtime.
With just under 2 minutes remaining in the 2nd overtime, the Lynx were rewarded a free kick just past midfield. Sophomore defender,
Will Cooner, floated the ball into the Tiger's box. The ball landed towards the endline and seemed destined to go out, however junior
Will Wurster gained positioned on his defender and headed the ball back towards the goal. The ball would careen off the inside of McGhie's leg and deflect into the goal, giving the Lynx the 2-1 overtime victory with 1:44 left on the clock.
Rhodes ends their season with an 8-7-4 record and takes fifth place in the SCAC with a 5-5-1 record.
