Greencastle, IN - - The Lady Lynx captured the SCAC title today in a nailbiting contest against the DePauw Tigers.
Rhodes maintained possession for the majority of the first half but a scramble in front of cage proved too much for the Lynx ending the first half 1-0.
A short timeout in the second half helped Rhodes regain focus and once again control play through out the second half.
With less than one minute left in regulation, senior Charlie Wagner took a direct shot off a penalty corner on which fellow senior, Libby Feaster capitalized to find the back of the cage. The goal forced Rhodes into overtime with DePauw for the second time this year.
Sophomore Katie Faucher scored the game winning goal from an assist by Senior, Lindsey Gurkovich just 59 seconds into overtime play.
The Rhodes Lynx outshot DePauw 10-6 with a 12-6 advantage in penatly corners. DePauw goalkeeper, Liz Attewell made five saves on the day while Rhodes' senior goalie Sarah Dockery made two to capture the win.
The Rhodes team becomes back-to-back SCAC champions with a record of 17-1, the best record in Rhodes' field hockey history.
