Junior Lindsey Gurkovich scored the game-winning goal just 51-seconds into the first overtime on Sunday afternoon, lifting Rhodes to a 2-1 victory over Depauw and giving Rhodes their 3rd SCAC Tournament Championship since 2004.
The Lynx controlled much of the game, outshooting the Tigers 11-4 and keeping an 11-10 edge in penalty corners. After a scoreless first half, sophomore Libby Jones gave the Lynx a 1-0 lead at 44:24 on an assist by Gurkovich. The Lynx appeared to have things under control as time wound down, as senior goalie Meghan Cullen stopped the Tigers on a pair of penalty corners in the waning seconds of the game, but the Tigers found the back of the net on a third penalty corner with no time left on the clock to force the overtime.
Just as quickly as the Tigers had gained the momentum heading into the overtime, Gurkovich and the Lynx answered, as the junior forward notched the game winner on an assist from junior captain Charlie Wagner just 51 seconds into the overtime.
Rhodes entered the tournament as the #1 seed, after claiming their fifth regular season SCAC Championship in the past six years. The SCAC Champion Lynx finish with a 13-4 overall record and await the release of the NCAA Championship bracket to see if they have earned the program's first berth to the NCAA Tournament.
