Women's Soccer Wins 1st SCAC Match Over DePauw 3-0

The Rhodes women's soccer team won their first SCAC match of the 2007 season over the Tigers of DePauw University by a score of 3-0.

Junior midfielder Kara Purdy scored her second goal of the year and first game winner in the 8th minute of play whe she deflected a corner kick into the Tiger net.  The Lynx would hold the 1-0 advantage for the rest of the half.

Eight minutes into the second half freshman forward Bailey Morgan stole the ball from a Tiger defender and crossed the ball into the penalty area for senior midfielder Caroline Voelkel who headed the ball past the DePauw keeper.  Voelkel's goal was her 7th of the season.  She leads all scorers in the SCAC coming into the weekend.

With less than two mintues remaining the Lynx sealed the victory when sophomore forward Karil Alvino played a shot corner to junior defender Lizzie Wright who rocketed the ball into the DePauw net from just outside the penalty area.

The Lynx victory of DePauw was the first since 1995 when Rhodes won by score 2-1.  Rhodes improves to 4-3 on the season and 1-0 in the SCAC.  They Lynx will face Centre College at home on Sunday, September 23, 2007 at 11:00am.
