Rhodes women's soccer coach Katie Chambers has announced that Abbey Barnum has joined the Lynx staff for the 2018 season.
Barnum comes to Rhodes after serving a year as assistant coach for the University of the Southwest where the NAIA Mustangs went 13-3. In addition to recruiting, she organized all training sessions and travel arrangements for the second team, assisted with varsity training sessions, was the community service liaison for the team, and was the resident director of the University.Â
Barnum completed a standout collegiate career at NCAA Division II-Midwestern State (MSU) and prior to graduation, spent a year coaching the Liverpool Football Club International Academy America in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Barnum was a four-year letter-winner for MSU. The Spring, Texas native played in 46 career games and started all 23 games as a senior. Primarily a defender and midfielder, she helped lead the Mustangs to a 13-4-4 overall record her senior season which included a Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship and automatic bid in the NCAA tournament. Barnum's mustangs went to the NCAA Tournament during her freshman campaign as well.Â

While assisting with the Liverpool Football Club International Academy America, Barnum organized extra training sessions while communicating ideas and the structure of each session to the players as well as parents to advance each player's basic skills.

Barnum graduated in 2017 with a bachelor's in business administration.Â
