We are excited to have welcomed John Combs to Rhodes College as an assistant coach in the Fall of ’22. “A proven leader at every division and in the professional ranks, he brings a wealth of experience and energy to our program and college”, exclaims Head Coach Dave Zazzaro.
Prior to Rhodes College, Combs spent two years as an Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach at Florida Tech; where he focused mainly on the offensive side of the ball.
Before his tenure at Florida Tech, Combs was the founder of Team One Lacrosse club in Chicago, Illinois, where he also served as President from 2009-2015. In addition, he was also the Director and Coach of 15 elite travel teams as well as the Director of Recruiting Services for elite high school players.
Combs previously worked with the Chicago Machine of Major League Lacrosse between 2007 and 2009. During that time, he served as an assistant coach during the 2007 season before becoming Head Coach for the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
He served as Head Boys Lacrosse Coach at New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois from 2004 to 2008, during which time his teams won four state championships. In addition, he handled all responsibilities of the organization, supervision, and administration of a sports team, including budgetary, strategies, and fiscal development.
Between 2003 and 2004, Combs served as Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach at Colgate University. That role saw him serve as Recruiting, Offensive, and Scout Coordinator.
Combs served as Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach at Holy Cross from 1996-1999 after being an Assistant Coach for the 1994 and 1995 seasons. His off-field duties entailed all responsibilities of the organization, supervision, and administration of a sports team, including budgetary, strategies, fiscal and alumni development.
Combs' played lacrosse at SUNY-Cortland and SUNY-Potsdam between 1984 and 1988.
Combs graduated from SUNY-Potsdam with a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Labor Relations with a Minor in Business Economics and Health Sciences. He also went on to earn a Master of Arts in Sports Administration from Northwestern University.
