Cunningham is a dedicated lacrosse coach and former standout faceoff specialist with a proven record of success across high school, collegiate, and club programs. His career began as a faceoff midfielder at Arcadia University, where he quickly made his mark as one of the program’s top specialists. He earned multiple all conference honors during his collegiate playing days, setting both single-game and single-season program records for faceoffs and ground balls. His performance at the X and ability to dictate possession not only fueled his team’s competitive edge but also laid the foundation for his future role as a faceoff coach and mentor. While at Arcadia, Cunningham earned a B.A. in Biology (2020) and is pursuing his M.A. in Secondary Education.
Cunningham began his coaching career in 2016 at Manasquan High School (NJ), serving as defensive coordinator and faceoff director. During his six seasons with the Warriors, he oversaw all aspects of the defensive unit, substitution strategy, clears, and the faceoff game. His impact was immediate and lasting, helping lead the program to three Shore Conference Championships and three New Jersey State Group Championships.
At the same time, Cunningham expanded his reach through club lacrosse. As a head coach with Building Blocks Lacrosse (2016–2020), he guided high school travel teams, running practices, leading tournament competition, and mentoring athletes through the college recruiting process. His club coaching emphasized skill development, work ethic, and a holistic approach to player growth.
Cunningham returned to his alma mater, Arcadia University, in 2022 as an assistant coach. In this role, he was entrusted with overseeing the program’s faceoff unit, developing SSDM and LSM wing play, and managing substitutions. Under his leadership, Arcadia produced multiple All-Conference faceoff specialists, including two First-Team honorees, and set new program records for faceoffs and ground balls. His coaching mirrored his playing legacy, turning the X into a position of strength for the Knights.
In July 2024, Cunningham joined the staff at Roanoke College, one of the premier programs in Division III lacrosse, under legendary Head Coach Bill Pilat. At Roanoke, he has continued to serve as faceoff director, while also managing substitutions and co-coordinating the defensive unit. He was heavily involved in developing the program’s man-down defense and clearing strategies, contributing to a season that produced eight All-ODAC selections, four USILA All-Americans, and top-25 national rankings in both ground balls and caused turnovers.
In May 2025, Cunningham was named as a Head Coach of Riot Lacrosse, a high school travel program where he continues to build and guide elite athletes through high-level training, tournament play, and the college recruitment process. His leadership with Riot reflects his long-standing dedication to advancing the game at the grassroots and developmental levels while preparing athletes for collegiate success.
