Patrick McGrail returned to Rhodes for the third time in his career, once as a student-athlete ('14) and now twice on the coaching staff. After Rhodes, McGrail returned to northern Illinois to Fenwick High School where he was the assistant varsity basketball coach, helping to guide his alma mater to the 2017 State Championship game. In his final year, McGrail added duties of Athletic Coordinator to his job title, supervising home event ticket sales, concessions and workers as well as maintaining the athletic website.
The 2021-22 season marks his fourth straight year with the Lynx and sixth overall coaching on the sidelines for Rhodes.
In his previous stint as assistant coach for the Lynx, Rhodes went 20-7 in 2014-15, ending the season on a three-point loss in the SAA Championship game to Hendrix. The Lynx went 37-24 during his two-year span, coaching two-two All-SAA recipient Brennan Sullivan as well as All-SAA honorees: Tyler Gee, Luke Collins, Geoff Livsey, Ryan Van Hoeck, Drew Miller and Daniel Galvin. McGrail assisted in all aspects of the program which included practice plans, scouting opponents, implementing training programs, sponsorships and youth basketball camps.
McGrail played in 105 contests for the Lynx where he averaged 20.95 minutes per game. With a four-year 4.88 points per game average, he was a constant for the Lynx where he started 49 games under former head coach Mike DeGeorge. As a Lynx, McGrail earned the titles of 2012-13 Defensive Player of the Year, 2013-14 All-SAA Sportsmanship Award, and finished his career on top of the Southern Athletic Association leader board, with a 47.8 three point percentage.
McGrail hails from Hinsdale, Illinois where his is a Fenwick High School graduate. In his time with the Friars, he was a two-year letter winner and elected as senior captain. In his junior year, McGrail was awarded the prestigious title of "Man of the Year" at Fenwick. Prior to attending Fenwick, McGrail resided in California where he was a two sport athlete at De La Salle High School where he played basketball and football.
McGrail graduated from Rhodes College with a B.A. in Psychology.
