Sam McLain joined the Rhodes football staff prior to the 2019 season. He currently serves as the defensive line coach, and is also in charge of the strength and conditioning program for the team.

Under McLain's guidance, the Lynx have placed two linemen ... D'On Coofer and Jordan McCoy ... on the SAA All-Conference team. 

Prior to his time as a coach at Rhodes, McLain spent one year (offseason) at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois. He also volunteers at his high school, Montgomery Academy, in the summer time.

McLain played at Rhodes from 2014-18 under Dan Gritti and Jim Ryan. Sam was a two-year starter who saw time at both linebacker and defensive end. He graduated in 2018 with a degree in business with a focus on finance and marketing. 

Sam is active with the Memphis Police Athletic League as an instructor, teaching their coaches how to coach. He also presented at the 2020 Nike Nike Coaching Summit in Tunica, Mississippi. Â
