Pete Cordelli came to Rhodes in 2014 as the coach of the running backs. With over 30 years of experience coaching at the college and high school level which saw him win the 1988 National Championship at the University of Notre Dame, he enters his third season with the team as the Wide Receivers Coach.
He arrives at Rhodes after spending the last few seasons coaching at Memphis-Area High Schools.
During the course of his career, Cordelli has coached and developed 12 players who have played in the National Football League including current Minnesota Vikings Wide Receiver Greg Jennings (Western Michigan), Pittsburgh Steeler legend Jerome Bettis (Notre Dame), and NFL Hall of Fame Finalist Tim Brown (Notre Dame).
During Cordelli’s time at Notre Dame, he not only coached Brown to the 1987 Heisman Trophy, but also coached “Rocket” Ismail to a Runner-Up finish in the 1990 Heisman balloting.
Before Rhodes, Cordelli spent two seasons as the running backs and assistant speical teams coach at Western Michigan followed by a three year stint as the head coach of Kent State.
Cordelli spent five seasons at Notre Dame under Hall of Fame Head Coach Lou Holtz, serving in many different roles including quarterbacks coach, wide receivers coach, and offensive coordinator.
Through his early coaching years, Cordelli made stops at Arkansas, Memphis State, and Minnesota.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Education at North Carolina State University in 1977.
