Jane Wells enters her 12th year at the helm for the Lynx after a 2015 season that saw the Lynx win their ninth conference title and earn a birth in the Sweet 16. Wells also serves as Senior Women's Administrator as well as Coordinator of Indoor Facilities.
In Wells' 11 years as head coach, Rhodes has amassed an overall record of 137-67 (.672) and captured seven conference championships (2006, 2009-2013, 2015) and eight regular season titles (2005-2007, 2009-2012, 2014, 2015). Wells is a four time winner of the SCAC/SAA Coach of the Year honor (2009-2012) and was also awarded NFHCA Regional Coach of the Year twice for the Lynx breakout 2010 season (17-2) as well as in 2016.
A native of Richmond, Va., Wells is a Rhodes Alumna, having received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Sociology in 2003. Since graduation she has been employed at Rhodes, serving first as the Assistant Coordinator of Recreational Services, working with intramural and club sports programs as well as assisting with the field hockey and softball programs. Wells stepped up to Head Field Hockey Coaching responsibilities in March of 2005 and in August 2011 traded her intramural and club sport duties for a new role as Coordinator of Facilities for Athletics.
As a student-athlete at Rhodes Wells competed in three seasons of field hockey and softball. While sidelined her junior year with a knee injury, she was able to serve as a student assistant coach for both sports. As a student assistant coach she helped guide the Lynx field hockey squad to their first conference championship, a KIT title in 2001. She captained both teams as a senior and served on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Wells was an All-Conference Selection as well as an NFHCA Academic All American.
Outside of field hockey Jane enjoys athletic activities, service and traveling. Wells served as the staff leader on five Rhodes Rebuilds spring break trips to New Orleans and spends her summers volunteering in education around the world (Cambodia 2009, India 2011, Guatemala 2012-2013, Uganda 2013, and Brazil 2014). Jane also volunteers weekly at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and completed the St. Jude Marathon this past December. Wells is a co-captain of Team Rhodes, a campus wide initiative to get students, faculty, staff, and alumni involved in fundraising for St. Jude through the Heroes program- this past fall the group raised $83,000 for St. Jude with field hockey accounting for $17,000 in contributions. Anything outside and active will hold her attention including biking, hiking, team sports, and golf.
