Coach Erdody Head Shot

Averill Erdody

Rhodes College head field hockey coach Katie Gerzabek Salem announces that Averill Erdody has joined the Lynx coaching staff in July 2021.

"I am thrilled to welcome Averill on staff at Rhodes," said Salem. "She has a passion to help mentor young people to become the best versions of themselves and an enthusiasm for the game that is contagious. Her teaching background and experience coaching at the Division III level will only help us build and grow on the tradition of excellence that Rhodes Field Hockey has cultivated over the history of the program. I am excited for Averill to get to Memphis so we can get started!"

In the collegiate realm, Erdody was most recently an assistant coach at Southern New Hampshire University where she worked with all facets of the goalkeepers' practice plans and game strategies. While on staff with the Penmen, she helped lead the team to their program's first ever Northeast-10 Conference Championship appearance. SNHU combined for six shutouts in 10 wins, keeping opponents to just 1.89 goals per game.

Erdody has been coaching since 2014 where she got her start with USA Futures Field Hockey. She then coached the Strikers Stars Club team before stepping onto campus at Wilkes University in Pennsylvania. As a graduate assistant for the D-III Colonels, Erdody was in charge of the goalkeepers and aided with the team's strength and conditioning. During her time with the Colonels, the coaching staff garnered MAC Coaching Staff of the Year honors in 2017.

"I am so excited to have the opportunity to join the field hockey team and athletic department here at Rhodes," said Erdody. "It's an honor to have the chance to learn from and coach alongside Katie with such a strong group of student-athletes. During my interview process, I just knew Rhodes was the right fit for me, and I feel so blessed to be able to join this community."

Erdody played Division I field hockey for the University of Albany before transferring to UMass Lowell where she earned a bachelors in Communications. She later earned a masters in Education from Southeastern University.
