Game Recap: Rhodes vs. East Texas Baptist University
The Rhodes College men's soccer team delivered a dominant offensive performance on Sept. 18 at Rhodes Soccer Field, cruising to a 6-1 victory over East Texas Baptist. The Lynx improved to 3-0-3 on the season after scoring twice in the first half and adding four goals after halftime.
Rhodes opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Luke Grant found the back of the net off an assist from Evan Holsinger. Martin Sosa doubled the advantage in the 31st minute, scoring off an assist from Brady Janes to give the Lynx a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Key Performances
Grant led the Rhodes attack with two goals, scoring once in each half. His second goal came in the 49th minute off a freekick assist from Vincent Stephens, giving the Lynx a 3-0 advantage.
Sosa added a first-half goal for Rhodes, while Cooper Hudson scored in the 67th minute off an assist from Ben Novello.
Novello then added a goal of his own in the 73rd minute, scoring off an assist from Kaleb Dawit. Justin Seabrook capped the scoring in the 88th minute with an assist from Alex Leon De Magalhaes.
Holsinger, Stephens, Janes, Novello, Dawit and Leon De Magalhaes each contributed assists in Rhodes' six-goal offensive performance.
Game Highlights
Rhodes controlled the match from the opening whistle, outshooting East Texas Baptist 28-6, including a 14-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Lynx also recorded 12 fouls compared to 14 for the Tigers.
After taking a 2-0 lead into halftime, Rhodes continued its offensive pressure with four second-half goals. Grant scored less than four minutes into the second half before Hudson, Novello and Seabrook added goals to complete the 6-1 victory.
The Lynx held East Texas Baptist to just one shot on goal throughout the contest, while Rhodes' 28 total shots marked a dominant offensive showing.
With the victory, Rhodes improves to 3-0-3 on the season.
