Baseball Falls to No. 4 Centre in SAA Championship Game

Game Recap: Rhodes vs. No. 4 Centre College

The Rhodes College baseball team fell to Centre College 11–3 in the SAA Championship game on May 9, 2026, in Rome, Georgia. Centre used an explosive first inning to build an early lead and maintained control throughout the afternoon to capture the conference title.

Despite the early deficit, the Lynx continued to battle offensively and collected eight hits in the contest, but Centre's lineup delivered timely hitting throughout the game to hold Rhodes at bay.

Key Performances

Ben Daniel led the Rhodes offense with a 2-for-4 performance and two RBIs, highlighted by a third-inning double that brought the Lynx back within striking distance.

Corbin Martens added two hits and scored a run, while Brad Larson recorded two hits and an RBI in the championship matchup. Cooper Kuriger also contributed a hit and scored once for Rhodes.

Andrew Carron provided a bright spot out of the bullpen, tossing two scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out one.

Game Highlights

Centre surged ahead in the opening inning with six runs on seven hits, taking immediate momentum in the championship game. RBI hits from Aaron Lopez, Graham Johnson, Forrest Day, and Ben Prather fueled the early offensive outburst.

Rhodes answered in the bottom of the third inning when Daniel ripped a two-run double to left center, scoring Martens and Kuriger to cut the deficit to 6–2.

The Colonels added two more runs in the fourth inning and another in the fifth to extend the lead before adding insurance runs in the ninth. Larson later drove in Brandon Trichell with an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to account for the final Rhodes run.

Up Next: NCAA Tournament Selection

With the loss, Rhodes moves to 29–15 overall after finishing as the SAA Tournament runner-up. The Lynx will now await potential postseason opportunities following another strong season under first-year head coach Rob Schrier.
