Softball Takes the Series Over Millsaps

Game Recap: Game 1 vs Millsaps
The Rhodes College softball team secured a 2-0 shutout victory over Millsaps on April 18 in Jackson, Miss., powered by a dominant performance in the circle and timely hitting early in the game. Rhodes struck in the second inning, capitalizing on its best offensive opportunity of the day. With runners in scoring position, Athena Gonzales delivered a clutch single to center field, driving in two runs to give the Lynx all they would need. From there, the game turned into a pitcher's duel—but one clearly controlled by Rhodes.

Key Performances
Athena Gonzales led the offense, going 1-for-4 with 2 RBIs, delivering the game's decisive hit in the second inning. Harper Allee-Press was a bright spot at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 and adding a double to pace the Lynx offense. In the circle, Taylor Petty was exceptional, tossing a complete-game shutout. She allowed just three hits over seven innings while striking out five and walking one, consistently keeping Millsaps off balance and out of scoring position.

Game Recap: Game 2 vs Millsaps
Rhodes wasted no time taking control, erupting for four runs in the first inning and never looking back in a dominant 15-3 win over Millsaps on Saturday afternoon. Isabela Barber set the tone early with a grand slam in the opening frame, jumpstarting an offense that would stay hot all game. Millsaps responded with three runs across the first two innings, but that would be the last time they threatened. From the fourth inning on, Rhodes completely pulled away—scoring in each of the final three frames, including a six-run sixth inning that put the game firmly out of reach.

Key Performances
Isabela Barber led the offensive explosion, going 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, and 7 RBIs in a massive day at the plate. Kaitlyn Sun was just as impactful, finishing 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs and multiple key hits to extend innings and build momentum. Harper Allee-Press added another strong day, going 3-for-5 and scoring three runs as a consistent spark at the top of the lineup. The Lynx tallied 20 hits as a team, showcasing depth and relentless pressure throughout the lineup. In the circle, Gina Dudley picked up the win, going six innings while allowing three runs and keeping Millsaps contained after the early innings.

Game Recap: Game 3 vs Millsaps
Rhodes held the lead late but couldn't close it out, falling 6-5 to Millsaps in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. The Lynx struck first in the opening inning and regained control in the sixth, stringing together key plays to take a 5-2 lead. Capitalizing on passed balls, defensive pressure, and timely hitting from Kate Ledlie, Rhodes appeared to have momentum heading into the final frame. However, Millsaps answered in the bottom of the seventh with a three-run rally, using a combination of extra-base hits and timely singles to walk it off and avoid the sweep.

Key Performances
Kate Ledlie led the way offensively, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and playing a key role in Rhodes' four-run sixth inning. Harper Allee-Press added a strong performance, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Katie Bejian also contributed two hits in the effort. Rhodes totaled seven hits on the day and showed aggressive baserunning, particularly from Athena Gonzales, who recorded multiple stolen bases.

Up Next: Rhodes Hosts Centre for Senior Weekend
