Softball Sweeps Centre in Statement Weekend, Caps Series with Senior Day Shutout

Game 1 Recap
The Rhodes College softball team jumped out early and never looked back, taking down Centre College 6–1 on Saturday afternoon in Memphis. A three-run first inning set the tone, and the Lynx backed it up with solid pitching and timely hitting to secure the win.

Rhodes wasted no time getting on the board. In the bottom of the first, Athena Gonzales scored on a fielder's choice, before Isabela Barber launched a solo home run to extend the lead. Kate Ledlie added to the momentum later in the inning, reaching on an error that brought in another run to make it 3–0.

The Lynx continued to apply pressure in the second when Kaitlyn Sun delivered an RBI single to push the lead to 4–0.
Centre managed to get one back in the fifth inning, but Rhodes answered immediately. Peyton Rohrig came through with an RBI single, and Talia Travis followed with an RBI double to cap the scoring at 6–1.

Key Performances
Talia Travis led the offensive effort, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while also scoring a run. Isabela Barber added a home run and drove in a run, providing an early spark.

Kaitlyn Sun and Peyton Rohrig each contributed RBIs, helping Rhodes capitalize on scoring opportunities throughout the game.

In the circle, Taylor Petty earned the win with a strong five-inning outing, allowing just one run while scattering seven hits.

Abby Froelich closed things out effectively, tossing two scoreless innings in relief.

Game 2 Recap
Rhodes College jumped out to an early lead and withstood a late push from Centre to earn a 10–8 victory in game two on Saturday afternoon, completing the doubleheader sweep.

After a quiet first inning, Rhodes erupted in the second and third to take control of the game.

Talia Travis got things started in the second with an RBI double, and Kaitlyn Sun followed with a two-run double to give the Lynx a 3–0 lead.

Rhodes broke the game open in the third. Peyton Rohrig delivered an RBI single before Travis struck again with another RBI double. Jasmyn Stanley then blew it open with a two-run triple, and Athena Gonzales added a sacrifice fly to cap a five-run inning and extend the lead to 8–0.

Centre responded in the fourth with a solo home run, but Rhodes answered right back as Katie Bejian drove in a run to make it 9–1. The game shifted in the fifth, when Centre capitalized on miscues and timely hitting to score four runs and cut into the lead. Rhodes added an insurance run on an RBI double from Gonzales, but Centre wasn't done. A three-run seventh inning brought the Colonels within two, but Rhodes held firm to close out the 10–8 win.

Key Performances
Talia Travis led the charge, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Jasmyn Stanley delivered a huge swing with a two-RBI triple and finished with two hits and two RBIs.

Kaitlyn Sun added three hits and two RBIs, while Peyton Rohrig contributed two hits and an RBI in a balanced offensive effort.

Athena Gonzales drove in two runs and added a key insurance RBI late in the game.

In the circle, Gina Dudley earned the win, tossing five innings while allowing five runs (three earned). Emily Pertuit came in to close, securing the final six outs despite late pressure.

Game 3 Recap
Rhodes College honored its senior class in the best way possible Sunday afternoon, delivering a dominant 8–0 shutout over Centre College to complete the three-game sweep on Senior Day.

Rhodes set the tone early and never let up.

The Lynx opened the scoring in the first inning when Harper Allee-Press brought home Athena Gonzales on a sacrifice fly. After a couple quiet innings, Rhodes broke things open in the fourth.

Kaitlyn Sun sparked the rally with an RBI single, and Isabela Barber followed with a two-run single to stretch the lead to 4–0. The momentum carried into the fifth, where Allee-Press reached on an error that plated two more runs.

Rhodes continued to tack on in the sixth, with Emma Caplinger and Jasmyn Stanley each driving in runs to cap the scoring at 8–0.

Centre was held in check all afternoon, managing just three hits as the Lynx pitching staff controlled the game from start to finish.

Key Performances
Isabela Barber led the offense with three hits and two RBIs, while Talia Travis and Jasmyn Stanley each recorded multi-hit games, with Stanley also driving in a run.

Kaitlyn Sun and Harper Allee-Press each contributed key RBIs in the middle innings as Rhodes capitalized on scoring opportunities.

In the circle, Gina Dudley was dominant, tossing 4.2 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out three to earn the win. Addie Nickelson and Taylor Petty combined to finish the shutout effort.
