The Rhodes College men's basketball team closed out one of the most successful seasons in program history with a hard-fought 88–84 battle against Roanoke College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on March 6 at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The postseason matchup lived up to its billing, featuring seven ties and three lead changes as the Lynx and Maroons traded momentum throughout the contest.
Rhodes kept the game tight from the opening tip, trailing just 45–41 at halftime after both teams shot efficiently in the first half. The Lynx continued to respond in the second half, matching Roanoke point-for-point with 43 points after the break. Rhodes remained within striking distance until the final moments before Roanoke sealed the win at the free-throw line late.
Phil Dotson paced the Lynx with a game-high 27 points, shooting 10-of-19 from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Jackson Huxtable added 18 points, connecting on three three-pointers and going 7-of-8 at the line. Shawn Jones Jr. contributed 14 points while adding four rebounds and three assists.
Jack Dempsey led Rhodes on the glass with nine rebounds as the Lynx shot an efficient 47.5 percent from the field and 87.0 percent from the free-throw line as a team. Rhodes also recorded 21 assists and received 17 points from the bench, showcasing the balanced attack that defined the team throughout the season.
The Lynx entered the NCAA Tournament following a remarkable year that included capturing both the Southern Athletic Association regular season championship and the SAA Tournament title to earn the conference's automatic bid. Rhodes finished the season 23–5 overall and 12–2 in SAA play, tying the program record for most wins in a single season.
The NCAA berth also marked just the fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history, capping a historic campaign that will stand among the most accomplished seasons Rhodes men's basketball has ever produced.
