Softball Battles Through the Weekend, Earns Split with UMHB Before Falling to Huntingdon

Game Recap: Game 1 vs UMHB
In a strong all-around performance, the Rhodes College softball team defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor 8–2 on February 27, 2026, in Memphis, Tenn. The Lynx used timely hitting and a dominant outing in the circle to control the game from the middle innings on. After Mary Hardin-Baylor struck first in the opening frame, Rhodes responded quickly. The Lynx exploded for three runs in the second inning, capitalizing on aggressive baserunning and defensive miscues to seize momentum. Rhodes added another three-run surge in the fourth inning and tacked on two more in the sixth to put the game firmly out of reach.

Key Performances
Leading the offensive charge was Isabela Barber, who went 2-for-4 with a team-high three RBIs, delivering a clutch bases-clearing double in the fourth inning that broke the game open.
Katie Bejian added to the offensive momentum, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBIs, including a two-run single up the middle in the sixth inning. Harper Allee-Press and Evie Woodall each scored twice, while Athena Gonzales and Talia Travis also contributed multi-hit performances to round out the Lynx's 14-hit attack. In the circle, Gina Dudley delivered another composed performance, tossing a complete-game seven-hitter. Dudley allowed just two runs while striking out five and walking four, improving to 6–0 on the season.
 
Game Recap: Game 2 vs UMHB
In a back-and-forth battle, the Rhodes College softball team fell to Mary Hardin-Baylor, 7–6. After jumping out to an early four-run lead, the Lynx saw the Crusaders rally in the middle innings before mounting a late comeback attempt in the seventh. Rhodes struck first in the third inning with a four-run surge. Kaitlyn Sun delivered a two-run double up the middle, and Isabella Phelps followed with a two-run single to give the Lynx a 4–0 advantage. Mary Hardin-Baylor answered in the fourth and erupted for three runs in the fifth to tie the game, capitalizing on defensive miscues and timely hitting. The Crusaders added three more in the sixth to take a 7–4 lead. The Lynx refused to fold. In the bottom of the seventh, Isabela Barber blasted a two-run home run to center field, cutting the deficit to one and bringing the tying run into play. However, Rhodes was unable to complete the comeback.

Key Performances
Barber led the way offensively, going 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk.
Sun finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Phelps added two RBIs of her own. Emma Whittington scored twice for the Lynx.
In the circle, Taylor Petty tossed four innings, allowing one earned run. Abby Froelich worked three innings in relief.
 
Game Recap: Game 1 vs Huntingdon
The Rhodes College softball team dropped a 4–2 decision to Huntingdon on March 1, 2026, in Memphis, Tenn., despite outhitting the Hawks 8–7. Huntingdon struck first in the opening inning, but the Lynx answered immediately. In the bottom half, Kate Ledlie delivered a two-run double to left center, scoring Kaitlyn Sun and Athena Gonzales to give Rhodes a 2–1 advantage.
The Hawks evened the score in the third inning on an unearned run before taking the lead for good in the fifth. Huntingdon capitalized on a pair of doubles and a Rhodes defensive miscue to push across two runs and build a 4–2 cushion. Rhodes continued to threaten offensively, putting runners on throughout the middle innings, but left 12 runners stranded and were unable to produce the timely hit to close the gap.

Key Performances
Ledlie drove in both runs for the Lynx, finishing 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
Katie Bejian went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Kaitlyn SunAthena GonzalesIsabela BarberTalia Travis, and Jasmyn Stanley each recorded a hit.
In the circle, Gina Dudley went the distance, striking out seven across seven innings while allowing four runs (three earned).
 
Game Recap: Game 2 vs Huntingdon
The Rhodes College softball team fell to Huntingdon, 7–1. Huntingdon capitalized on defensive miscues throughout the afternoon, scoring five unearned runs to build separation. The Hawks struck in the second inning and added single runs in the third and fourth before breaking the game open with a two-run fifth inning. Rhodes managed to get on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Talia Travis reached on an error that allowed Katie Bejian to score, but the Lynx were unable to generate further offensive momentum.
Huntingdon added two insurance runs in the seventh to seal the decision.

Key Performances
Rhodes was limited to just one hit in the contest — a single by Harper Allee-Press.
Bejian scored the Lynx's lone run. In the circle, Emily Pertuit worked 4.2 innings, allowing five runs (one earned). 
Taylor Petty provided 2.1 innings of relief, allowing two runs.
 
Up Next: 
Rhodes travels to St. Louis, Mo., this weekend for a four-game slate hosted by WashU. The Lynx will face Wisconsin–Whitewater and WashU on both Saturday (1:00 p.m. / 3:00 p.m.) and Sunday (11:00 a.m. / 3:00 p.m.) as they look to bounce back against strong regional competition.
