Men’s Lacrosse Goes 1-1 in Virginia

Game Recap: Rhodes vs. Southern Virginia
In a commanding road performance defined by explosive offense and composed pressure, the Rhodes College Men's Lacrosse team defeated Southern Virginia University by a final score of 23–8 in Buena Vista, Virginia. The contest featured a dominant opening quarter and balanced scoring across all four periods, reflecting the Lynx's offensive depth.

Key Performances
Junior Gavin Nagle led the scoring effort for the Lynx, scoring four goals and tallying an assist, setting the tone early in the opening minutes. His aggressiveness in transition and ability to finish in tight windows helped Rhodes capitalize offensively.

Seniors Andrew Murphy and John Mori each contributed three goals, with Mori facilitating the offense with multiple assists throughout the game. Freshman Griffin Galloway added two goals and two assists, playing a key role in facilitating the ball and creating scoring opportunities.

The Lynx showcased impressive depth, with 13 different players finding the back of the net. Sophomore Jack Donahue and junior Mason Cloyd each tallied two goals, while sophomore Colin Finnigan, freshman Rhys McCarthy, juniors Charlie Carmouche, Garrett Mayer, sophomore Giovanni Brosco, seniors Wyatt Bounds, and Nate Simon each added one. Sophomore face-off specialist Burke Wade scooped up 7 ground balls and went 9-12 off the midline helping the Lynx maintain possession.

Sophomore goalkeeper Blake Jeska set the effort in goal, earning the win with 10 saves while allowing only five goals. Junior Jason Rubinstein added seven saves, and freshman Nate Johnston contributed valuable minutes to preserve the decisive score. As a unit, the Lynx recorded 17 total saves and limited Southern Virginia to just one goal in the opening quarter.

Rhodes opened the game with a commanding offensive push, scoring four goals in the first five minutes and ending the first quarter with a 8–1 lead. The early run highlighted the quick goals from Nagle, Galloway, and Simon which shifted momentum in favor of the Lynx. The second quarter saw Rhodes continue to apply pressure, extending the lead to 13–3 at halftime. Rhodes answered each push from SVU with crisp goals. In the fourth quarter, the Lynx maintained control, adding four more goals to secure the 23–8 win and cap off one of their most complete performances of the season.

In a high-intensity game filled with momentum swings, the Rhodes College Men's Lacrosse team fell to University of Mary Washington by a final score of 15–14 in overtime in Salem, Virginia. The contest featured a blistering start by the Lynx and a sudden-death finish that reflected Rhodes' resilience and offensive firepower.

Key Performances
Senior John Mori led the scoring effort for the Lynx, recording five goals and adding an assist, repeatedly breaking through the Eagle's defense and delivering in clutch moments. 

Junior Gavin Nagle added three goals and two assists, helping spark Rhodes' early offensive surge. Freshman Griffin Galloway contributed two goals and two assists, facilitating ball movement and capitalizing on scoring opportunities throughout the game. Sophomore Colin Finnigan, seniors Andrew Murphy, Wyatt Bounds, and Nate Simon each added a goal to round out a balanced offensive attack.

Defensively, goalkeeper Blake Jeska pushed the effort on the backside, recording 8 saves. The Lynx built an early cushion and limited Mary Washington to just four first-half goals. The Lynx played well off the ground, tallying a total of 35 ground balls as well as out-scrapping off the face-off.

Rhodes opened the game with a dominant offensive burst, scoring four goals in just over a minute to seize a 4–0 lead midway through the first quarter. The Lynx carried a 6–3 advantage into the second period and extended their lead to 9–4 by halftime behind efficient finishing and crisp ball movement.Rhodes answered to the Eagles with timely strikes from Mori and Nagle to maintain a narrow edge heading into the final period. After the Eagles tied the game at 13–13, Mori delivered a clutch goal with 3:51 remaining to give the Lynx a 14–13 advantage. The final score reflected a hard fought match from the Lynx, never giving up.

Rhodes returns home to face St. John Fisher University on March 7 at Crain Field in Memphis, Tennessee. Opening face-off is set for 12:00 PM as the Lynx look to bounce back in front of their home crowd and regain momentum heading into the next stretch of the season.
