Game Recap: Rhodes vs. Southwestern University (TX)

In a tightly contested conference showdown filled with lead changes and physical play, the Rhodes College men's basketball team defeated Southwestern (TX) 72–68 on Saturday afternoon, February 8, at the Corbin J. Robertson Center in Georgetown, Texas. Trailing at halftime, the Lynx leaned on second-half efficiency and balanced scoring to secure their ninth Southern Athletic Association win of the season and improve to 18-3 overall.

Key Performances

Jackson Huxtable paced Rhodes with a game-high 16 points, shooting 6-of-12 from the field while knocking down timely baskets that kept momentum on the Lynx side in the final minutes. Sam Maddox followed with 13 points and three assists, consistently attacking the lane and providing a steady offensive presence.

Phil Dotson delivered a strong all-around effort off the bench, finishing with 12 points and five rebounds, while Mason Bennett added 11 points on an efficient 4-of-6 shooting night. Shawn Jones Jr. controlled the glass, pulling down a team-high eight rebounds and adding key defensive plays in crunch time.

Game Highlights

Southwestern held a 36–32 advantage at the break after a competitive first half that featured five lead changes and four ties. Rhodes responded out of the locker room with improved shooting, connecting on over 53 percent of its second-half attempts while holding Southwestern to just 37 percent shooting after halftime.

The Lynx used a balanced offensive attack and defensive stops down the stretch to pull ahead late, weathering multiple Southwestern pushes. Rhodes' ability to score in the paint and capitalize on fast-break opportunities proved decisive in the closing minutes, sealing the four-point road victory.
