Softball Goes 3-1 Against Maryville and Lyon

Game Recap: Game 1 vs. Lyon College
In a dominant all-around performance, the Rhodes College softball team defeated Lyon College by a score of 8-0 on February 1, 2026, in Memphis, Tennessee. The Lynx controlled the game from the first inning, capitalizing on timely hitting and lockdown pitching to secure the run-rule victory. Rhodes wasted no time getting on the board. In the bottom of the first, Katie Bejian singled to center field to bring home Athena Gonzales, giving the Lynx an early 1-0 lead. The offense exploded in the third inning, plating five runs behind a series of extra-base hits and productive at-bats. Emma Caplinger delivered a two-RBI double down the right field line, while Emma Whittington and Kate Ledlie each added RBI efforts to extend the advantage. Rhodes tacked on insurance runs in the fourth and sixth innings to seal the 8-0 final.

Key Performances
Leading the offensive charge was Jasmyn Stanley, who went 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored, consistently setting the tone at the top of the lineup. Whittington drove in three RBIs, including a key groundout in the third inning and another RBI in the sixth. Caplinger added two RBIs on her clutch double, helping break the game open.
On the mound, Gina Dudley delivered a commanding start, throwing 4.0 innings while allowing just two hits and striking out six. The Lynx improved to 6–0 on the season with a gritty, back-and-forth victory that showcased timely hitting and resilience late in the game. Maryville struck first with a run in the second inning and added two more in the third, capitalizing on defensive miscues to take an early 3–0 lead. Rhodes responded in the bottom of the third when Isabela Barber roped a two-RBI double to left field, scoring Evie Woodall and Isabella Phelps to cut the deficit to one.The Scots extended their lead in the fifth inning, highlighted by a solo home run from P. Dickinson and an RBI double from D. Nance, pushing the score to 5–2. But the Lynx refused to fold. In the bottom of the fifth, Athena Gonzales drove in a run on a fielder's choice before Kate Ledlie delivered the biggest swing of the inning — a two-RBI double — to tie the game at 4–4. Maryville regained a 5–4 edge in the seventh on an RBI double, but Rhodes answered again. In the eighth inning, Ledlie came through once more with an RBI double to right center, evening the score at 5–5. The Lynx completed the comeback shortly after, sealing the 6–5 win in dramatic fashion.

The Rhodes College softball team dropped a high-scoring battle to Maryville (TN), 10–7, on February 22, 2026, in Memphis. Despite a big fourth inning that flipped the momentum in Rhodes' favor, the Scots responded late to secure the win. Rhodes struck first in the opening inning when Isabela Barber doubled to left center, driving in Katie Bejian. The Lynx added another run in the second as Jasmyn Stanley tripled to right center and brought home Talia Travis to take a 2–0 lead. Maryville answered in the third with two runs to tie the game, then broke through in the fourth. C. Zani launched a three-run homer to left center, giving the Scots a 5–2 advantage. Rhodes responded emphatically in the bottom of the fourth with a five-run inning. RBI singles from Kaitlyn SunHarper Allee-Press, and Athena Gonzales kept the line moving before Kate Ledlie delivered a two-RBI double to center field, putting the Lynx ahead 7–5. Maryville clawed back in the sixth, tying the game at 7–7 on a two-RBI double from T. Romero. In the seventh, T. Taylor tripled to center field, driving in three runs to give the Scots a 10–7 lead — a margin Rhodes could not overcome.

Key Performances
Bejian led the Lynx at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Isabela Barber finished 3-for-4 with an RBI double, while Kate Ledlie added two RBIs. Travis and Stanley each recorded two hits, with Stanley adding an RBI triple. Rhodes totaled 14 hits on the afternoon but left eight runners on base. In the circle, Abby Froelich started and worked four innings. Gina Dudley came on in relief for three innings of work.
 
Game Recap: Game 4 vs Lyon College
The Rhodes College softball team responded in dominant fashion Sunday afternoon, defeating Lyon 9–1 on February 22, 2026, in Memphis. A six-run fourth inning broke the game open and powered the Lynx to their seventh win of the season. Lyon struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on a Rhodes error to plate an unearned run and take a 1–0 lead. Rhodes answered immediately. In the bottom of the first, Isabela Barber doubled to right field to score Harper Allee-Press, evening the score at 1–1. The game remained tight until the fourth inning, when the Lynx offense erupted. Emily Pertuit ignited the rally with an RBI double to left, scoring Kate LedlieAthena Gonzales followed with a two-RBI single to center, and Emma Whittington added an RBI double up the middle. Isabela Barber came through again with an RBI single, and a sacrifice RBI from Katie Bejian capped the six-run frame to give Rhodes a commanding 7–1 lead.
The Lynx tacked on two more in the fifth. Dakota Marsee drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Emma Whittington reached on an error that allowed another run to score, pushing the margin to 9–1. Rhodes' pitching staff shut the door from there.

Key Performances
Barber went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, continuing a strong weekend at the plate. Allee-Press recorded two hits and scored twice, while Whittington added two RBIs. Gonzales also drove in two runs. In the circle, Gina Dudley earned the win, moving to 4–0 on the season. She allowed just one run (unearned) over three innings, striking out three. Taylor Petty followed with two scoreless innings of relief, striking out three and allowing no hits.

Rhodes returns home next weekend for a packed stretch at Rhodes Softball Field in Memphis. The Lynx open with a doubleheader against University of Mary Hardin–Baylor (UMHB) on Friday, February 27, with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM. On Saturday, February 28, UMHB faces Huntingdon in neutral-site action at 12:00 PM, followed by another matchup at 2:00 PM. Rhodes then closes the weekend Sunday, March 1, hosting Huntingdon College for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM, with game two set for 2:00 PM. With momentum building and conference play approaching, the Lynx will look to defend their home field and continue stacking wins.
