Women's Soccer Defeats Roanoke, Ties Lynchburg in Hard Fought Battle

Game 1 Recap: Rhodes College vs. Roanoke College

The Lynx looked to start their season off strong as the traveled to Roanoke Virginia to battle the Roanoke Maroons on August 30, 2025. They found success in their game plan, winning with an impressive 3-1 score. The game featured lots of dynamic movement from the forwards and midfield, leading to a variety of opportunities for Rhodes. Synergy and confidence from the back line was showcased and overall, the Lady Lynx proved to be the better opponent with a high sense of unity as a team.

Game 2 Recap: Rhodes College vs. University of Lynchburg

After coming off from a strong win, the Rhodes Women's Soccer team fought hard against the University of Lynchburg less than 24 hours after their season opener, on August 31, 2025, at Roanoke College. Rhodes battled against a usual NCAA tournament team, although neither opponent was able to find the back of the net in the end, leading to a 0-0 draw. Both teams came to play, but the Lynx fought hard creating really good chances and dominating most of the possession.

Key Performances

As the Lynx have an upperclassmen heavy team with 12 seniors graduating this year, it comes to no surprise that a lot of Rhodes' success came from the veterans. Not surprising as one of the key players for the ladies since her freshman year is Sophia Rall scoring the first two goals against Roanoke. Rall continues to show her agility and ability in her play, sparking a lot of the Lynx' success. Rhodes' third goal against Roanoke was in the second half, after Rall drew a foul in the box, allowing Grace Culver to score her first goal of the season through a penalty kick. Culver is another senior veteran who has dominated the midfield since her freshman year. Moreover, senior Reese Owens created a lot of attacking opportunities for the Lynx against Lynchburg, and senior Taylor Theofiledes showed leadership and composure in the defensive line. Senior Olivia Barfield comes up big for the Lynx against the few opportunities Lynchburg created and showed her skills both with her hands and with the ball at her feet over the weekend. Freshman Abby Bell had a stellar opening performance, helping the ladies through free kicks and her defending abilities. Bell will be a force to look out for throughout the season.

Up Next: Rhodes College vs. Mississippi University for Women

Rhodes Women's Soccer will meet Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi on September 3, 2025, at 5:30 PM CT. Rhodes has annually played them since 2021 and has yet to concede to the Owls. It should be an exciting match and hopefully another win to add onto the Lynx' growing record.
