Women's Lacrosse Topple Berry to Close Out Regular Season

On a sunny morning at Mason Field in Memphis, the Rhodes Lynx turned a tense opening into an all-out rout, defeating the Berry Vikings 17-5. The win bolstered Rhodes' conference record to 4-1 and showcased their explosive offensive depth, spearheaded by an unstoppable performance from senior, Anna Erskine.

Berry struck first, with two quick goals in the opening minutes. Berry capitalized on Rhodes' early mistakes, securing a 2-0 lead for the Vikings. Delaney O'Mailey sparked life for Rhodes with a determined unassisted goal midway through the quarter, but Berry answered again before the buzzer, taking a 3-1 lead into the second.

The second quarter marked the beginning of Rhodes' takeover. Amelia Giese fired an unassisted goal to narrow the gap, and Erskine found the back of the net moments later to even the score. From there, the Lynx took command, with Erskine adding another and Molly Heidrick scoring a go-ahead goal with under two minutes to play. At halftime, Rhodes held a slim 5-4 lead, but the momentum was unmistakably in their favor.

The Lynx exploded in the third quarter, unleashing a ten-goal barrage that left Berry stunned. Erskine was at the heart of the surge, scoring five goals in the period, including one while down a player and another assisted by Sam Horowitz. Contributions came from all corners of the field, as Caroline Kardian, Payton Stevens, Riley Schutt, and Alban Erdle each added to the tally. Berry had no answer for the relentless onslaught, and by the end of the quarter, Rhodes led 15-4.

With victory all but secured, Rhodes continued to press in the final quarter. Stevens and Giese both netted their second goals of the game, solidifying the Lynx's dominance. Berry managed a late goal, but it was a mere consolation as the game ended 17-5.

Rhodes' ability to combine an explosive offense with a suffocating defense proved decisive. By locking down Berry's attack and turning defensive stops into scoring opportunities, the Lynx delivered a statement victory, positioning themselves as a team to watch as the postseason approaches.

With the win, the Lynx secured the No.2 seed in the SAA tournament and will play the winner of Hendrix and Berry on Sunday, April 27 on Mason Field.
