Maryville, TN- The Rhodes College Softball team picked up three wins over the weekend in Maryville, Tennessee. The Lynx came away with two wins against Roanoke College, and picked up one win against the host Maryville College.
Game 1 vs Roanoke
For the first four innings, both teams battled fiercely, but neither could break through. The defenses held strong, and pitchers
Gina Dudley for Rhodes and
L. Gedro for Roanoke kept batters at bay. Finally, in the bottom of the fifth, Rhodes found their spark. With
Talia Travis on base,
Quinn Thompson smashed a double to left field, sending Travis home and putting Rhodes on the scoreboard. Moments later,
Katie Bejian followed suit with another double, driving in Thompson and extending the lead to 2-0. The Rhodes bench erupted in celebration as the momentum shifted firmly in their favor. Roanoke pushed back in the seventh inning. A single up the middle by

Game 2 vs Maryville

But Maryville wasn't about to roll over. A flurry of runs in the second and third innings, capitalizing on defensive errors and clutch hits, gave Maryville an 8-2 lead. The tide turned in the fifth inning, where Rhodes mounted a stunning rally. With the bases loaded, Talia Travis and Dakota Marsee delivered crucial RBI hits. Maryville's defense faltered, and Rhodes capitalized, tying the game at 8-8. The crowd was on edge as the momentum shifted. Maryville answered back in the sixth with a two-run homer from P. Dickinson, reclaiming the lead, 10-9. But Rhodes stayed relentless. In the seventh, Katie Bejian singled up the middle, driving in Savannah Russell to force extra innings. In the eighth, Rhodes showed their resilience. Travis drove in the go-ahead run, and a defensive error by Maryville allowed another to score, giving Rhodes a 12-10 lead. Maryville's last-ditch effort in the bottom of the inning brought one run home, but Addie Nickelson, who pitched the final two innings for Rhodes, secured the victory. With 18 hits and a total team effort, Rhodes outlasted Maryville 12-11 in a game for the ages.
Game 3 vs Roanoke
Rhodes struggled to find their footing early on, with their pitching rotation facing challenges. It was Addie Nickelson who provided the stability Rhodes needed in the circle. Nickelson pitched 5.1 innings of scoreless relief, giving her team a chance to rally.In the fourth inning, the Lynx offense began to stir. Talia Travis hit a sacrifice fly to bring Kate Ledlie home, putting Rhodes on the board. Later in the inning, Quinn Thompson worked a bases-loaded walk, cutting the deficit to 5-2. By the fifth inning, Rhodes continued chipping away at Roanoke's lead. Madison Bromley hit into a fielder's choice that brought Harper Allee-Press across the plate, narrowing the score to 5-3. The turning point came in the sixth inning. Roanoke's defense faltered, and Rhodes took full advantage. Thompson reached on an error that allowed Savannah Russell to score, and Katie Bejian delivered a clutch single to tie the game at 5-5. Moments later, Travis knocked an RBI single to right field, giving Rhodes their first lead of the game, 6-5. With momentum on their side, Rhodes delivered a decisive blow in the seventh inning. Bejian came through with another RBI single, and Allee-Press followed with a shot to center field to drive in another run. Game 4 vs Maryville
Despite their valiant effort, the Lynx were edged out by a late rally from the Scots, falling 5-4 in a dramatic finish. The game began with a defensive stalemate through the first inning. Rhodes broke through in the second inning, as Madison Bromley lofted a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Talia Travis to score and giving the Lynx a 1-0 lead. Maryville answered back in the third inning, pushing Maryville ahead, 2-1. The Lynx, determined to claw their way back, evened the score in the fifth. Harper Allee-Press advanced to third on a fly ball, setting up Quinn Thompson to score on a sacrifice fly from Kate Ledlie. The game was now tied 2-2. Bromley gave Rhodes a glimmer of hope in the sixth inning. Stepping to the plate with confidence, she sent a towering home run over the left-center fence, her first of the season, putting the Lynx ahead 3-2. Rhodes tacked on another run in the seventh. Allee-Press crossed the plate for the second time, driven in by Bromley's clutch double down the right-field line. With a 4-2 lead, it seemed the Lynx were poised for victory. However, the Scots mounted a stunning comeback in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs and runners on base, Bailey Williams hit a sharp single to left field, bringing home two runs and tying the game. The tension reached its peak when Paige Dickinson stepped up and smashed a double to left-center, sending Aline Barga home for the walk-off win. For Rhodes, Gina Dudley pitched six solid innings, allowing nine hits and four earned runs while striking out five. Madison Bromley was the standout at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, and three RBIs. Harper Allee-Press also contributed with two hits, a stolen base, and two runs scored. Despite the loss, the Lynx displayed resilience and grit, battling until the final out. As the season progresses, they'll look to channel this competitive energy into future victories.
The Lynx's record now stands at 4-8 after the tough loss to Maryville, but they will be looking to bounce back in their upcoming games. On March 8, they will host Blue Mountain University for a doubleheader starting at noon.
