Lynx Battle, Come Up Short Against Eagles

The Rhodes College Softball team returned home for a short 2-game series against the University of the Ozarks Eagles. Despite coming up short in both games, the Lynx were able to scratch across a few runs and keep the contests close.

Game 1

In game 1, the Rhodes offense got off to a hot start as they scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd thanks to an RBI double by Harper Allee-Press that scored Athena Gonzales. After holding the Eagles scoreless through the first 5 innings, Rhodes would lose the lead as the Eagles struck for 7 runs in the final 2 innings of the game. In the bottom of the 7th, the Lynx fought back with some offense of their own. Campbell Smith, Harper Allee-Press, and Emma Caplinger all recorded RBI's in the frame, but their effort would not be enough to best the Eagles. Rhodes would drop game 1 by a final score of 7-5. Gina Dudley started the game for the Lynx and pitched 6.2 innings, carrying a shutout into the 6th inning.

Game 2

Game 2 began with the Lynx falling behind early, but a solo home run from Quinn Thompson in the bottom of the 2nd put the Lynx right back in the ballgame. Unfortunately, the offense would be held silent until the bottom of the 7th with the Lynx down by 6 runs and only 3 outs to work with. Quinn Thompson hit a 2 RBI double to cut into the lead, scoring Harper Allee-Press and Emma Caplinger. This would be the 3rd RBI of the game for Thompson. Katie Bejian also recorded an RBI on a single up the middle to bring the lead to within 3. However, the late game offense would prove to be too late as the Lynx were unable to complete the comeback. They would lose game 2 by a final score of 7-4

The Lynx look to bounce back tomorrow as they hit the road to Batesville, Arkansas for a Saturday double header against Lyon College.
