After winning their first game in Montgomery, the Rhodes College Baseball team got set to play their second game against the Huntingdon College Hawks.
The Lynx offense struggled to get anything going as they were held to just 1 run the whole game. Corbin Kinder was responsible for the only run of the ballgame as he singled home Austin Smith. Unfortunately, the Hawks offense had a great day at the plate as they were able to push across 8 runs in the game. This would be enough to give the Lynx just their second loss of the season by a final score of 8-1.
The Lynx then returned home to Stauffer Field to take on the Fontbonne University Griffins on Sunday. The offense had a much more effective day at the plate that began with a Quinn Blackman RBI single to drive home Brandon Trichell and ignite the scoring. In the bottom of the 3rd, Quinn Blackman hit another RBI single followed by a Cooper Kuriger RBI that would extend the Lynx lead to 3-0. In the bottom of the 6th, Quinn Blackman belted his first homer of the season, a 3-run shot that put the Lynx in position to complete a run rule. Quinn Blackman would finish his day 4-4 with 3 singles and a home run, 5 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Ben Burkhart also hit a home run in the game, his 6th of the season which lands him in the top 5 in the country in home runs. In the bottom of the 7th, Brandon Trichell hit an RBI single to walk it off and complete the 7-inning run rule, defeating the Griffins 10-0.
Andrew Carron was the starting pitcher for the Lynx as he dealt 5.0 innings of 1 hit ball, not allowing any runs and striking out 5. Carron is credited with his 2nd win of the season, moving his record to 2-0. The Griffins were held scoreless throughout the game thanks to the combined pitching performances from Carron, Reid Lampert, and Sebastian Neave.
The Lynx record now moves to 12-2 on the season as they head into conference play. They travel to Danville, Kentucky next weekend to take on conference rivals Centre College and begin a 10-game road trip.
