The Rhodes College Softball team took the field for the first time in the new season this afternoon for an opening day double header against the Mississippi University for Women Owls. The Lynx offense struggled in both games, and were unable to get anything going throughout the day.
Game 1 featured a tough loss due to the offensive power of the Owls as they were able to push across 10 runs in the ballgame. The Lynx starter, Gina Dudley, put together a solid start spanning 4.0 innings and only allowing 2 earned runs, but the offense could not provide any reinforcement. The only Rhodes run of the game came thanks to an RBI double off the bat of Peyton Rohrig driving home Talia Travis in the bottom of the 6th. The Lynx would ultimately fall in game 1 by a score of 10-1.
Game 2 was a similar story as the Lynx were unable to plate any runs, and the Owls bats remained hot. Quinn Thompson, Dakota Marsee, Hannah Schweiger, and Jasmyn Stanley each recorded hits in the game, but it would not be enough to overcome the Owl offense. The Lynx would also drop game 2 by a final score of 8-0.
Softball will be back in action tomorrow for another double header against the Owls to round out the series. First pitch for game 3 is scheduled for 11:00 am shortly followed by a 1:30 pm start for game 4.
