Lynx Baseball Claims Decisive Victory on Opening Day

Opening Day for the Rhodes College Baseball team saw the preseason ranked #24 Lynx traveling south to Shreveport, Louisiana to kick off the new season against the LaGrange College Panthers.

The Lynx offense got off to a hot start as they batted around in both the 2nd and the 4th innings. Cooper Kuriger was the first to cross the plate in the 2nd inning after a well placed bunt by Myles Kruger forced a wild throw by the Panther pitcher. The Lynx would go on to score 6 total runs in the inning thanks to a 2 RBI double off the left field wall by Cooper Angilly followed by another 2 RBI single off the bat of Quinn Blackman.

After the Panthers answered with 3 runs of their own in the top of the 4th, the Lynx offense went back to work as Ben Burkhart, Corbin Kinder, and Brandon Trichell each crossed the plate in the bottom of the 4th. Myles Kruger and Quinn Blackman recorded their 1st and 3rd RBI's respectively as they led the Lynx to a healthy 9-4 lead. The offense remained unstoppable as a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 5th from Corbin Kinder drove home Ben Burkhart. Shortly thereafter, in the bottom of the 6th, Ben Daniel stroked a single into the right center field gap that allowed Cooper Kuriger to score and extend the Rhodes lead to 11-5. This margin would prove much too large for the Panther efforts, and the Lynx would claim the victory on opening day by a final score of 12-5.

The Lynx ace, Zac Sohosky, received the opening day start and delivered a performance spanning 6.0 innings and consisting of 5 earned runs, 6 strikeouts, and 0 walks. The left handed phenom begins his Junior campaign with a win, moving his record to 1-0.

Mick Arney came on in the top of the 7th in relief of Sohosky and dealt 2.0 innings of shutout ball before turning it over to Sebastian Neave to close it out. Neave would be successful in slamming the door for the Lynx as he retired the final threat without giving up any runs.

Rhodes will remain in Shreveport the rest of the weekend to compete in the tournament. They will play a doubleheader tomorrow beginning with McMurry University at 1:30, followed by Huntingdon College at 5:00.
