The Rhodes men's soccer team played the Sewanee Tigers and left the field with a 0-0 draw on October 3, 2025, at the Lynx' home field in Memphis, TN. An unfortunate result as the men battled against the Tigers for the entirety of the game, but unable to find the back of the net in the end.
Game 2 Recap: Rhodes College vs. Centre College
The Lynx found themselves with another tie against the Centre College Colonels on October 5, 2025, on the Rhodes College soccer field. Rhodes fought for a result and showed resilience after a late goal from the Colonels, putting themselves back on the scoreboard fto make it a 1-1 game just five minutes after Centre's goal.
Key Performances
The Lynx dominated Sewanee throughout the game, creating multiple dangerous chances for themselves. Sewanee showed up ready to play and made it hard for Rhodes to find scoring success. Rhodes outshot the Tigers and nearly had an early goal with a header from
Ben Novello, but Sewanee's keeper was able to stop it from finding the back of the net. The Rhodes defense remained strong and stable, making it hard for the Tigers to have many scoring opportunities.
Max Sosa specifically has made a name for himself, anchoring the backline and constantly getting in on the attack.
Jack Elliott also showed his skills in the midfield, aiding in Rhodes' attacking chances throughout the game, and having multiple shots on goal within the 90 minutes. While disappointed with a tie, allowing no goals is extremely important throughout conference play leading Rhodes to look forward from this match.
The Centre Colonels made a challenging end to the first weekend of conference play for the Lynx. It was a pretty even playing field statistically, although Centre had quite a few opportunities in the first half, but Rhodes wrestled to keep the Colonels from taking the lead. The second half was a bit of a different story; the Lynx came out more organized and with better solidarity, making for an exciting game that had fans on the edge of their seats waiting for someone to take the lead.
Jack Elliott once again playing technically and tactically in the midfield helped provide multiple attacking opportunities for the Lynx. After an unfortunate goal from a corner for the Colonels, Rhodes scrapped for the equalizer, and it was defender and captain
Max Sosa who buried the ball in the Colonels goal with 90 seconds left to leave the game with a 1-1 result.
With these results, the Lynx start off conference play unbeaten which will fuel the team for the remainder of conference play as they aim to come out on top.
Up Next: Rhodes College vs. Oglethorpe University
The Lynx will shift their focus to next Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 2:30 PM CT, as they take on the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels. Last year they fell to Oglethorpe 1-0 in the conference championship, but look to have a different result this go round.
