Football Drops Contest To Trinity

The Rhodes College Lynx faced a challenging matchup against nationally ranked Trinity on Saturday afternoon, ultimately falling 63-0 at Trinity Stadium. Despite the final score, the Lynx showed flashes of resilience and grit on both sides of the ball, highlighted by a balanced effort from veterans and underclassmen alike.

On offense, freshman quarterback Brennan Keim led the passing attack with 57 yards through the air, connecting with multiple receivers including Dero Walker, who hauled in two receptions for a team-high 24 yards. Felix Koerner added a 15-yard grab, while John Hampton III, Austin Smith, and Matthew Rice each contributed key catches to keep drives alive. In the ground game, Robert Daniel powered the rushing attack with 39 yards on 13 carries, including a 21-yard burst that marked the longest play from scrimmage for the Lynx offense.

The special teams unit also turned in a strong performance, with Grady Jones booming 11 punts for 438 total yards, including a long of 58 yards and two pinned inside the 20. Dero Walker and John Hampton III provided solid returns, combining for over 100 kickoff return yards to help set up the offense with better field position.

Defensively, the Lynx continued to play with effort against one of the SAA's most explosive offenses. Linebackers Blake Coogan, Lawrence Watts, and Maceo Woodward Jr. led the way with six total tackles apiece. Chyco Williams made a highlight play with a first-quarter interception and 25-yard return, halting a promising Trinity drive and shifting early momentum. Freshman Jay Davis added a tackle for loss, while Hollis Strawbridge and Jonathan Torres each broke up passes to slow the Tigers' aerial attack.

While the scoreboard didn't reflect the team's fight, the Lynx showed continued development in special teams execution, defensive takeaways, and offensive tempo.

The Lynx drop to 1-5 on the season as they return home next weekend for the historic rivalry against the Sewanee Tigers. Kickoff from Crain Field is set for 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 25th, as Rhodes looks to bounce back in front of the home crowd.
