Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lynx Fall to Warhawks

On January 3, 2025, Rhodes College fell to McMurry University by a score of 66-44. Despite the defeat, Rhodes showed resilience and had several positive takeaways from the game.

Key Performers:
  • AC Milam delivered a team-high 16 points, leading the offense with efficiency. She shot 6-13 from the field and hit 3 of 6 three-pointers, demonstrating her ability to score from both inside and outside. Milam's presence in the game kept Rhodes within striking distance, and her ability to score in a variety of ways was one of the team's bright spots.

  • A'niya Lagarde was a dominant force on the glass, finishing with a team-high 11 rebounds. She added 7 points and was instrumental in keeping the team competitive in terms of rebounding, ensuring Rhodes had second-chance opportunities throughout the game. Lagarde's effort on both ends of the floor is a major positive takeaway for the team.

  • Taylor Dupree contributed 8 points and was efficient from the field, going 4-8. She provided steady scoring and helped balance the offensive effort while also pulling down 3 boards.

From the start, McMurry established a strong lead, but Rhodes kept fighting throughout the contest. The team was led by AC Milam, who scored 16 points, Taylor Dupree who scored 8, and A'niya Lagarde, who pulled down 11 rebounds while adding 7 points. Their individual performances helped keep the game within reach, particularly in the first half, though McMurry's offense began to pull away in the second half.

Rhodes struggled offensively, shooting just 32.7% from the field and a mere 17.6% from three-point range. This shooting inefficiency, coupled with 15 turnovers, hindered their ability to mount a comeback. Despite the shooting issues, Rhodes managed to win the battle on the boards, grabbing 31 total rebounds, including 7 offensive rebounds, which gave them extra possessions and limited McMurry's second-chance opportunities.

While McMurry capitalized on some of Rhodes' mistakes, particularly in transition and with points off turnovers, the team's defense held strong in key areas, limiting fast-break points and forcing McMurry to rely on a half-court offense. Additionally, Rhodes shot a solid 63.6% from the free-throw line, making 7 of 11 attempts.

Though the game ended in a loss, the effort from Rhodes was evident, particularly in their rebounding and defensive discipline. With improvements in shooting accuracy and ball control, the team has plenty of room to grow and will look to build on these positive aspects in upcoming games.

Team Statistics:
- 31 rebounds
- 24 points in the paint
- 8 points off turnovers
