The Rhodes College baseball team kicked off the SAA Conference Tournament tonight on the road at Birmingham-Southern College. The Lynx got off to a hot start in the postseason, both at the plate and on defense.
The game started slowly as both pitchers had settled into a groove, but the Lynx offense would soon flip the script. The bats exploded for 12 runs in the contest, highlighted by Quinn Blackman and Cooper Kuriger, who each accounted for 2 hits, and Quinn drove in 2 RBIs. A couple of other notable offensive performances from the Lynx include Corbin Kinder, Malcolm Rohlfing, and Myles Kruger, who each plated 2 RBIs, respectively. Zac Sohosky got the start on the mound in game 1 and turned in a stellar performance spanning 7.0 innings of 1-run baseball. Sohosky struck out 6 and only allowed 6 hits all game to pave the way for Rhodes to take the game 1 victory by a score of 12-1.
Rhodes will look to ride their momentum into Saturday, where they could make game 2 the final game of the series. The first pitch of game 2 is set to be thrown at 1 p.m. from Birmingham-Southern College, as both teams battle to keep their postseason run alive.
