The Rhodes College Softball team was on the road this weekend to take on the Birmingham-Southern Panthers in one final conference series before the postseason.
The Panther offense was hot all weekend, and game 1 was no exception. They plated 10 runs in the contest. The Lynx struggled to get anything going, with their only runs of the game coming from RBI singles off the bats of Kate Ledlie and Harper Allee-Press. The Lynx dropped game 1 by a score of 10-2.
Game 2 was a much closer affair as the Lynx got off to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st, but it was quickly erased as the Panthers scored 3 in the bottom half. Quinn Thompson recorded 2 hits and an RBI in the game, but it would not be enough for the Lynx to complete the comeback. They would lose the series in a game 2 score of 6-5.
Rhodes was able to keep the Panther bats a little quieter in game 3, but they could not get anything going at the plate themselves. Quinn Thompson and Peyton Rohrig drove in RBIs, but the Panthers held on to their 1-run lead in the bottom of the 7th to walk away with a series sweep. Game 3 would end in a final score of 3-2. Kate Ledlie had a strong appearance in relief for the Lynx as she came in and tossed 5.1 innings of shutout softball in which she struck out 1 and only allowed 5 hits.
This concludes the regular season, and the Lynx will begin conference tournament play next weekend.
