The Rhodes College softball team was on the road this week, traveling to Birmingham-Southern College to play the Millsaps Majors in the first round of a double-elimination tournament.
The Majors came out swinging as they put up 3 runs in the top of the first, but the Lynx immediately began clawing back as Harper Allee-Press knocked an RBI single to left to drive in Savannah Russell. Madison Granberry would bring Allee-Press around to score just a couple of batters later as she mashed a double to bring the score to 3-2 in favor of Millsaps. The Lynx pitching staff kept the Millsaps offense quiet for the next 6 innings, which allowed the Rhodes offense to go to work. Quinn Thompson and Harper Allee-Press both recorded RBIs in the bottom of the 2nd to take the lead. Allee-Press continued her fantastic day at the plate in the bottom of the 4th as she picked up yet another RBI single to extend the Lynx lead. She would finish the day 2-3 at the plate, accounting for 3 of the 5 Rhodes runs.
Lynx pitcher Gina Dudley took the ball in the top of the first and caught fire, throwing 6.2 innings of one-run ball. She struck out 4 and allowed only 5 hits, allowing the Lynx to emerge victorious in round 1 by a score of 5-4.
The Lynx will be back in action tomorrow as they take on the Birmingham-Southern College Panthers at 12 pm.
