On Friday evening, the Rhodes College Lynx played against the Berry College Vikings at home. This is the second time these two teams have met in SAA play. The Lynx have been home for the last two games and are currently on a two-game winning streak, looking to make it three.
Â
The junior guard,
Kearstyn Seay, started the game by scoring the first four points for Rhodes as she netted back-to-back mid-range jumpers. Rhodes struggled in the first quarter, only scoring 13 points to Berry's 11. The first quarter set the tone that this game would be all about defense, and both teams rose to meet the challenge as they forced each other to shoot 28% from the field. Rhodes played better in the second quarter, which resulted in a 29-27 lead at halftime, but their 10 turnovers at the half were concerning.
Â
The last two quarters were the Lynx's downfall, as they had different problems each quarter. In the third quarter, the Lynx took care of the ball very well, only having a single turnover. However, they fell in love with the three and mid-range jumpers, which resulted in them only scoring 9 points. In the last quarter, The Lynx turned the ball over 8 times. The turnovers messed with their offensive rhythm, and they weren't able to make the high-percentage shots that they were getting. Rhodes's two-game winning streak was snapped as they were defeated 49-50. The two scorers in double digits for Rhodes were
Avery Marsh with 16 points and
AC Milam with 14.

Â
Sunday afternoon, the Rhodes College women's basketball team took on the Oglethorpe Petrels. After their loss to Berry College, the Lynx were looking to return to the winning column to honor their seniors on Senior Night.Â
Â
The Lynx were locked in in the first quarter, scoring 20 points on 50% shooting from the field and 42% from three.
Avery Marsh led the team with her scoring, as she had 12 of their 20 points and almost outscored the Petrels herself. Defensively, the Lynx held their opponent to 14 points in the first and second quarters on 37% shooting from the field. Their defense only committed two shooting fouls, one each quarter, as they contested every shot. The Petrels tried attacking the basketball, but as they were shooting what they thought were open shots, they found themselves being contested by two Lynx players. With three others crashing the boards heavily, Oglethorpe had no second-chance opportunities. By halftime, the Lynx were up 33-28.Â
Â
The third quarter was when Rhodes sealed the victory. Their defensive intensity didn't simmer down as Rhode held Oglethorpe to 7 points while they scored 18. In this quarter, their defense could be considered flawless, as Rhodes didn't commit a shooting foul and forced five turnovers. They followed that amazing defensive effort with a dominating offensive display in the fourth quarter of 20 points on 53% shooting. Rhodes blowout Oglethorpe 71-47 to capture a win on senior night. The leading scores were Avery with 27,
Catherine Althoff with 13, and Kearstyn with 11. Congratulations to the two seniors,
Catherine Althoff and
A'niya Lagarde. Thank you for everything y'all have contributed to make Rhodes women's basketball successful. Roll Lynx!!!
