On Saturday, February 17, the Rhodes Men's Tennis team opened their season with two wins over Covenant College and Transylvania University. They won each match 6-3.
Opening the day was the match against Transylvania University, played at Eldon Roark Tennis Center in Memphis. At No. 1 Doubles,
Gabe Williams and
Oliver Bonovich fell in a close match, losing 8-7 in a tiebreaker. At No. 2 Doubles,
Owen Kohler and
Erwann Monnet got the lone doubles win for the Lynx 8-3. At No. 3 Doubles,
David Phillips and
Cole McNair fell short in a close match 8-5. On the singles side, the Lynx won 5 out of the 6 matches, with strong performances from all positions.
Their second match against Covenant College was played at Leftwich Tennis Center. In No. 1 Doubles,
Christian Mainella and
Paul Fridman lost a competitive battle 8-6. At No. 2 Doubles,
Daniel Trudell and
Nicholas Miloi got the lone doubles victory with an impressive 8-1 sweep. In No. 3 Doubles,
Oliver Bonovich and
David Phillips fell short with a strong effort in a tiebreaker. The Lynx won 5 out of the 6 singles matches, with wins coming from
Daniel Trudell,
Christian Mainella,
Oliver Bonovich,
Paul Fridman, and
Nicholas Miloi.
The Lynx look to gain two more wins on the road next weekend in Greencastle, IN. They will play Depauw University on Friday, March 1 at 4:30 pm and Hanover College on Saturday, March 2 at 11:00 am.
