The Lynx softball team's first home stand of the 2024 season was comprised of six games against three different teams. They began with a doubleheader on Friday against Lane College, in which they split the series 1-1.
In game one of this series, starting pitcher
Gina Dudley pitched a complete game of 2 run ball, striking out 6 and only allowing 5 hits. In the bottom half of the 3rd, the Lynx offense took charge by putting up 5 runs in the 3rd inning thanks to singles from
Madison Granberry,
Savannah Russell, and
Madison Bromley, as well as sacrifice flies from both
Harper Allee-Press and
Talia Travis.
Savannah Russell returned to the plate in the bottom of the 4th and recorded another single to push across
Cam Ferguson for her second RBI of the game. Rhodes led by 4 runs heading into the bottom of the 5th but were far from finished as an
Emma Caplinger double followed by an
Athena Gonzales single brought
Talia Travis and
Madison Bromley around to score, extending the lead to 7. The Lynx were 1 run shy of the 5th inning run rule until
Talia Travis blasted her first home run of the year, a solo shot to walk off game one against Lane College. The Lynx would win 10-2 and head into game two with momentum.
Game two was an impressive performance by the Lane College offense, which put up 11 total runs. The Lynx battled by scratching 6 runs of their own across the board thanks to RBIs from
Emma Caplinger,
Madison Bromley,
Talia Travis, and
Athena Gonzales. Rhodes also showed their power as
Emma Caplinger and
Talia Travis both knocked 2 run homers in the Lynx come-from-behind effort. Unfortunately, the power was not enough, and the Lynx fell short in an 11-6 loss in game two.
Saturday morning brought Rhodes face-to-face with Webster University in a game dominated by the Lynx bats.
Madison Granberry led the way as she recorded 3 hits in 4 at-bats, one of which was a bases-clearing double that helped her reach an RBI total of 4 for the game.
Talia Travis,
Harper Allee-Press,
Cam Ferguson, and
Madison Wehrman all accounted for RBIs of their own, leading the Lynx to a 9-1 victory over Webster.
Gina Dudley picked up another win in the circle for the Lynx after a 5 inning performance with 8 strikeouts and a single earned run.
Rhodes would take on Maryville College on Saturday afternoon in a contest that came down to the very last inning.
Madison Granberry put the Lynx on the board early in the 1st inning after she stole home. The offense would be silent until the bottom of the 7th when
Madison Granberry hit a sacrifice fly, allowing
Harper Allee-Press to tag up and score.
Madison Bromley singled for an RBI to bring the Lynx within 2 runs, but the deficit was too large, and the Lynx fell to the Scots 5-3. Granberry once again led the team in hits and RBIs.
A low-scoring affair began the two-game set on Sunday as the Lynx would play game two against Maryville. A Maryville homer in the 4th would be all it took to defeat the Lynx 2-0 in game two of their set.
The offense woke up in the second game on Sunday as the Lynx circled back to play Webster once again. This highly offensive game would result in a tie as both teams pushed across 12 runs a piece.
Jasmyn Stanley led the offense thanks to her 4 hits and pair of RBIs.
Madison Bromley went 3-3 on the day and also recorded 3 RBIs of her own.
Overall, the Lynx would finish the weekend 2-3-1, bringing their season record to 2-7-1. The Lynx will remain home next weekend as they look to bounce back in a two-game set against Austin College and a single-game contest against Mississippi University for Women.
