Box Score The Rhodes College Lynx were on the road to take on the Birmingham-Southern College Panthers in the first round of the SAA Conference Tournament. Rhodes has had a tough season during SAA matchups as they finished seventh in the standings with a 4-10 record. Although they had a negative record, their margin of defeat has only been by a few points. In the last four games, Rhodes has gone an even 2-2 and has figured themselves out just in time for the SAA Championship tournament.
In this game, the Lynx showed the Panthers why they are the most dangerous high seed in the SAA. The Lynx completely controlled this matchup.
Zavien Williams was vital to the Lynx's dominance, leading his team with an explosive offensive performance and an amazing defensive effort. The junior guard, injured for several games, was more than ready as he scored 17 points and hit five threes in the first half. The Lynx held the lead for the entirety of the half, and even though the Panthers were keeping up, they were flustered as they had to work for every shot they made. Meanwhile, the Lynx seemed to be scoring at will, shooting 51% from the field and 47% from the three-point. As the buzzer sounded, the Lynx were up 47-35.
At the beginning of the second half, Rhodes went on a 14-6 run that put them up twenty at the 15:21 minute mark. As the game went on, Rhodes committed many fouls that undoubtedly helped Birmingham-Southern cut the lead to three with five minutes to go.
