Women's Basketball Crush Hendrix

Wednesday, February 14, the Rhodes College women's basketball team played their last game of the SAA regular season against the Hendrix College Warriors. The Lynx are looking to end their season on a win to propel themselves through the SAA Conference Tournament and compete for their fourth consecutive SAA Conference Championship.

Rhodes's defense in the first two quarters set the tone of the game. Their physicality made Hendrix shy away from the paint and settle for jumpers. Rhodes allowed Hendrix to only make 7 field goals through two quarters on 21% shooting and forced 8 turnovers. On offense, the sophomore guard Avery Marsh was locked in for Rhodes as she started off hot, scoring 9 of her team's 15 first-quarter points. As she cooled off in the second quarter, Rhodes continued their dominance as they got their buckets in a variety of ways. It seemed like they couldn't miss as they only missed 7 shots that whole quarter: 5 field goals and two free throws. As the buzzer sounded, Rhodes was holding a commanding lead of 37-20.

The Lynx took their foot off the gas in the third quarter, and the Warriors had their best quarter of the game. The Warriors won that quarter, scoring 20 points to the Lynx's 16. However, even with a performance like the Lynx, they were still up 13 going into the fourth, where they won that quarter to close them out. The Lynx dominated this game since jump ball, with only 2 ties and 3 lead changes that all came in the first three minutes of the first quarter. The Lynx won this game 71-52 and ended with a 10-4 record in the conference. The leading scorers for Rhodes were Avery with 19, Catherine Althoff with 11, and AC Milam with 10.

Rhodes hosts the first game in the Conference Tournament as they play their rivals and the five-seeded Sewanee Tigers this Sunday, February 18.
